In support of the National Framework Plan for the Informal Sector in Solid Waste Management adopted by the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) in 2010, the Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines (SWAPP), DENR-EMB/NSWMC, League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) and League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP), in partnership with the City Government of Legazpi City, are organizing SWAPPCon 2013 - “MAINSTREAMING THE INFORMAL WASTE SECTOR” on November 26 – 29, 2013 at Concourse Convention Center, San Roque, Legaspi City.

SWAPPCon 2013 aims to bring together the formal and informal waste sectors in order to learn from past and existing practices in mainstreaming the informal waste sector (IWS). Specifically, the conference will present the different approaches for mainstreaming and social inclusion available to the IWS, and discuss various alternative livelihoods and social enterprises which can be developed for them. Participants invited to the conference are LGUs, academe, private sector, NGOs, NGAs, and other stakeholders.

In this regard, I encourage you and your environment officers to attend SWAPPCon 2013. This conference can provide significant insights into technical issues and best practices in IWS that could be relevant to your city, and a chance to establish network with some LGUs, academe and other institutions. The conference registration fee (live-out) is P4,000.00 per participant wh i c h will cover AM/PM snacks and lunch for two days and conference kit. Training registration fee (Live-out) is also P 4,000.00 per participant. Participants will pay for their accommodation and transportation to and from the conference venue. Enclosed is the proposed program and participant’s registration form for your reference.
