RE : Commission resolution no. 2016-001, dated 18 May 2016 entitled resolution on the development of a clear policy on coal-fired power plants in pursuit of low carbon development pathway for the Philippines

This refers to the request of the Department of the Interior and Local Government to disseminate to our members a copy of Commission Resolution No. 2016-001 on the Development of a Clear Policy on Coal-Fired Power Plants in Pursuit of Low Carbon Development Pathway for the Philippines, signed by then President Benigno S. Aquino III.

The resolution affirms the commitment of the Climate Change Commission (CCC) to mainstream a low carbon development pathway for the Philippines in accordance with the country’s commitments under the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNCCC). Given this commitment, the CCC:

• Facilitates within six months the conduct of a national policy review and framework development on energy;
• Urges DENR to coordinate discussions and harmonize policies and regulations on new and existing coal-fired power plants;
• Urges DENR to ensure the incorporation of the measurement and mitigation of GHG emissions in the development and review process for the Environmental Impact Statements of coal-fired power plants.
