The League encourages your city to participate in the aforementioned competitions:

  1. The Guangzhou Award is co-sponsored by the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the World Association of the Major Metropolises (Metropolis) and the City of Guangzhou. It aims to recognize innovative public policies, projects, programs and practices undertaken by cities and regions that will contribute in sustainably addressing the socio-economic and environmental challenges in cities and regions and in advancing the prosperity and quality of life of their citizens.

The Guangzhou Award will be given to up to five (5) deserving cities for each award cycle. Each of the winning cities will receive a USD 20,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a commemorative certificate designed for the award.

The winners of the award will also be invited to attend the special events including the Guangzhou International Conference on Urban Innovation, the exhibition and the award ceremony.

Deadline of submission is on 31 August 2018. For more information, visit this website: www.guangzhouaward.org.

  2. The WRI Ross Prize for Cities launched by WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities will highlight extraordinary urban projects that have contributed substantially to transformative change toward more sustainable cities.

Finalists will be selected in October 2018 and the winning team will be chosen by a distinguished jury. The winner will be announced at a gala event in New York City on April 10, 2019 and will receive a cash award of USD 250,000.
