RE : Call for Expression of Interest to become a pilot city on localizing SDGs for sustainable urban resource management in Asia and the Pacific

DATE: August 30, 2018

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) are inviting interested cities to become a pilot city for the project “Integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into local action in support of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific.” The 3-year project aims to assist pilot cities in undertaking a local, participatory process that works towards transforming their urban resource management into more sustainable systems and to enable other cities across the region to learn from pilot cities’ experiences.

In support of the project’s goal to strengthen the capacities of local governments and other key urban stakeholders to implement the 2030 Agenda in the area of sustainable urban resource management, pilot cities will be provided with technical and financial support in the following workstreams: 1) participatory and inclusive urban governance through multi-stakeholder coalitions, 2) evidence-based decision-making, implementation and review through harmonized and innovative data collection, analysis, and dissemination, and 3) integrated analysis and planning through application of systems thinking.

For further details about the project, please refer to the attached project brochure, project application questionnaire, and letter of endorsement template. You may also email your inquiries directly to escap-edd-suds@un.org, wehmer@un.org and cerin.kizhakkethottam@un.org.

Call for expressions of interest to become a pilot city is open until 23 September 2018, midnight, GMT +7. Early submissions are encouraged as screening will start as soon as applications are received. Further details about the application can be accessed at the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform: http://www.urbansdgplatform.org.

Very truly yours,

Atty. Shereen Gail C. Yu-Pamintuan
