LCP SUPPORTS THE SENATORIAL BID OF ADMINISTRATION CANDIDATES BINAY, ABALOS, AND TOLENTINO

The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) National Executive Board unanimously adopted a Resolution to support the senatorial bids of Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, former LCP President and former DILG Secretary Atty. Benhur Abalos, former LCP President and incumbent Senator Francis N. Tolentino.

Resolution No. 2025-005—sponsored by LCP Acting National President and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and adopted during the 79th National Executive Board meeting held on 13 March 2025 at the Solaire Resort North, Quezon City—expressed the indispensable synergy between the executive and legislative branches of government, and emphasized the League’s support for legislative efforts to, among others, review, amend, and overhaul, the 33-year-old Local Government Code of the Philippines.

The League recognized the unwavering dedication of the said candidates to local governance and nation-building. Through Resolution No. 2025-005, the League not only underscored their transformative leadership as city mayors which put their cities at the helm of development, but also envisaged more effective policymaking and implementation processes.

Mayor Binay transformed Makati City into a model of digital innovation, healthcare expansion, and economic resilience, setting the benchmark for efficient and sustainable local governance. Secretary Abalos and Senator Tolentino, through their leadership in LCP, ULAP, and MMDA, have been instrumental in advancing local government units’ (LGUs) autonomy, urban planning, disaster resilience, and governance reforms. Specifically, Atty. Abalos championed disaster preparedness, urban development, and transparency, strengthening local government efficiency in Mandaluyong City and nationwide. Senator Tolentino pioneered a groundbreaking model for traffic management, disaster response, and public order as city mayor and amplified the voice of LGUs in the Senate to influence national policies. Their leadership has shaped progressive, resilient, and empowered local governments.

LCP National Chairman and Bacolod City Mayor Albee B. Benitez emphasized that this endorsement goes beyond mere declaration, and urged his fellow city mayors to actively support the campaigns of Mayor Binay, former Secretary Abalos, and Senator Tolentino. He called on local leaders to translate this support into concrete action, ensuring that their leadership and policies, which align with the needs of cities, are strongly represented in the upcoming elections.

Driven by a shared vision of inclusive development and responsive governance, the League pledges its full support to these candidates and is committed to mobilizing its network, resources, and grassroots efforts to amplify their campaigns, ensuring a resounding victory that will empower LGUs and uplift communities nationwide.
