April 4, 2023 - General Trias City

The League successfully held its 74th National Executive Board (NEB) meeting on 28 March 2023 at The Bayleaf Hotel Cavite. The meeting was presided by LCP National Chairperson and Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez and was participated by 32 member cities.

One of the meeting highlights was the dialogue with the national government. Senator Robinhood Padilla shed light on the move to amend the 1987 Constitution, which has been long overdue. Senator Padilla's passionate discussion on adapting to the current development demands gained the Board’s support.

Meanwhile, the Department of Finance-Bureau of Local Government Finance (DOF-BLGF) OIC Executive Director Ma. Pamela Quizon provided relevant updates on their policy advocacies for city government, including the enactment of pending bills on income reclassification in the 19th Congress. The Board concurred with the importance of supporting the measure as it will tremendously affect city fiscal administration and their ability to increase their competitiveness ranking, among others.

To further support collaboration among local governments, LCP National President and Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama stated, “when we are bonded and we share our best practices, our sincere transfer of technologies, at the end of the day we will achieve empowerment in a real sense, self-determination, and self-reliance. Once it is achieved then we can always tell LCP enabled these and was able to help…”

The Board also approved the LCP 2022-2025 Strategic Plan and Executive Agenda, as well as the proposed Association of Local Chief Executives of Mayor Rama. During the partners’ presentation, UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines Secretary-General Dr. Ivan Anthony S. Henares gave a brief presentation on the bid for UNESCO Creative Cities. He assured of UNACOM’s support to cities that will be submitting their bids.
