AS THE national president of the League of Cities of the Philippines, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is calling all the city mayors in the country to rally behind the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
“We know how big and serious the task is, but if we all participate actively and wholeheartedly in facing this unprecedented challenge, we shall overcome it,” Leonardia said in an official statement to his fellow mayors.
LCP is a formal organization of all the mayors of 145 cities in the country. Some 40 million people, or about half of the country’s population, live in cities.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, LCP focal mayor on peace and order and illegal drugs, replied to Leonardia’s statement, saying: “Well stated. God bless.”
“We are in the State of Public Health Emegency and for sure, as chief executives, we are all concerned and focused on how to prevent and fight this COVID-19,” Leonardia added.
During this very challenging time, the mayor said, our LCP will try its utmost best to be as informative and helpful to all our mayors in all the ways it can.
The League has designated its LCP COVID-19 Assistance Team to monitor relevant developments and facilitate the dissemination of circulars, orders, advisories and other issuances from the Office of the President, DOH, DILG and other agencies relative to the crisis.
The Assistance Team will attend to the mayors’ queries, requests and other forms of assistance that LCP could possibly offer or facilitate.
“If need be, yours truly would also be happy to help. Please feel free to contact us,” Leonardia added.
Last week, Leonardia postponed the LCP National Executive Board Meeting that was scheduled on March 11 in Manila, due to the public concerns and anxiety over the virus.
“While we had looked forward to this LCP assembly, the matter of reassuring our constituents with our presence and attention is of paramount concern amidst public anxiety over Covid-19,” Leonardia added.
