The top official of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) has called on all the 145 city mayors in the country to rally behind the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a press statement, LCP president Evelio Leonardia, who is also Bacolod City mayor, said that the league has designated its LCP COVID-19 Assistance Team to monitor relevant developments and facilitate the dissemination of circulars, orders, advisories and other issuances from the Office of the President, Department of Health (DOH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other agencies relative to the crisis.

“As chief executives, we are all concerned and focused on how to prevent and fight this COVID-19, since the country is in the State of Public Health Emergency,” Leonardia said.

Leonardia said the LCP will try its utmost best to be as informative and helpful to the city mayors in all the ways it can.

“We know how big and serious the task is, but if we all participate actively and wholeheartedly in facing this unprecedented challenge, we shall overcome it,” he added.

He said the Assistance Team will attend to the mayors’ queries, requests and other forms of assistance that LCP could possibly offer or facilitate.

“If need be, yours truly would also be happy to help. Please feel free to contact us,”he added.

Leonardia postponed the LCP National Executive Board Meeting that was scheduled on March 11 in Metro Manila, due to the public concerns and anxiety over the viral disease.
