Despite some calls to suspend the implementation of the Senior High School national program,members of the LCP National Executive Board reiterated their full support last March 21, 2015 during the 55th National Executive Board (NEB) meeting at Hotel Jen Manila, Pasay City.
Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez, also the LCP Public Relations Officer, said cities, as educational centers, must do their share in broadening the access and improving the quality of basic education.
Cities are in thick of preparing their senior high school investment plans for 2016. Currently, LCP, with The Asia Foundation and the Australian Embassy, through the City LEADERS project, is providing platform for cities to mentor each other to prepare their investment plans.
'The senior high school is a viable platform for stakeholders to work together towards broadening the access to and enhancing the quality of basic education, as it fosters an environment of collaboration and innovation among its implementers, thereby reducing the cost of an additional two years of education,' said the LCP Resolution.
Moreover, LCP also endorsed several mayors like Balanga City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia as the focal person for the Smoke-Free Cities ASEAN Network and Mayor Del De Guzman, also the LCP Secretary-General, as the focal mayor for the LCP and Weather Philippines Foundation partnership.
LCP declared support for the Philippine Cities Network on Public Space. Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy officially turned over project documents of the recently concluded Traffic and Transport Project to Mayor Bautista and presented sustainability mechanisms for the project. LCP also deliberated and approved its operations budget for 2015
LCP President and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and Deputy Secretary General and Tacurong City Mayor Lina Montilla presided over the meeting.
